Supervised Research and Writing

Currently enrolled J.D. students who wish to do an independent study project must complete this form and have it signed by the professor supervising their project.

Note: This form may be completed on-line but may not be submitted on-line. Make the appropriate selections from the boxes below, and then print the form for the appropriate signatures. If a part-time faculty member is your advisor, this form must also be signed by Associate Dean Gerald Leonard. Submit the completed form to the Law School Registrar's Office in Room 444. If you wish this independent study to fulfill the Upperclass Writing Requirement you must submit an additional form. Please contact the Registrar's Office with any questions.

The above mentioned student has submitted to me a detailed written statement of a proposed Supervised Research and Writing Project. I have reviewed the proposal and certify that the project will involve a substantial investment of time and effort and will result in a significant written work.

Thus, I request that the student be registered for Supervised Research and Writing for  semester credit hours under my supervision.

Note: Associate Dean Gerald Leonard must approve all research and writing projects supervised by part-time faculty members. Students must submit an outline of the proposed project to Associate Dean Gerald Leonard.

Note: According to Article IV, Section 1 of the current Academic Regulations, students may earn a maximum of three (3) semester credits in either the second or third year for supervised extracurricular work.

Warning: The final grade for a supervised research and writing project will be based on work completed by the end of the semester.

When you have completed this form, print it out and obtain the appropriate faculty signatures. Submit the form to the Registrar's Office in Room 444.
