Filing the Intent Form

Upper-class students must file an Intent to Fulfill the Upper-Class Writing Requirement form when you are ready to attempt to meet the writing requirement. In most instances, the form is due by the end of the add/drop period in the semester the work is started. Third year students are required to submit the form in the first semester of their third year even if they intend to fulfill the requirement in the second semester of their third year.

If you are fulfilling the requirement through a course, seminar, or Independent Study, then you must have the supervising faculty member sign the form. With the additional approval of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, a part-time faculty member may supervise the work. If you are satisfying the requirement through an advanced moot court problem and bench memo, the Director of the First-Year Research and Writing Program must sign the form. If you are satisfying the requirement through your work on a journal, only the student's signature is required in most instances. Students on the International Law Journal must obtain their supervising faculty member's signature.

The form is available online under Frequently Requested Forms and in the Registrar's Office.
