Law Firm Challenge - Fiscal Year 2011

The Boston University School of Law Law Firm Challenge is part of the Law School’s annual giving program that is designed to raise awareness of alumni giving at firms where we have five or more alumni.  It also gives alumni at these firms an opportunity to reconnect with their alma mater and promote giving to the Law Fund in a fun and challenging way.  Each year, firms in the Challenge are recognized for the highest percentage of their alumni giving to the School and the total group giving of the firm’s alumni.  One or more alumni at an individual firm are encouraged to serve as Firm Representatives.  The Firm Reps assist the School’s staff with inspiring their fellow alumni to achieve the 100% giving challenge by delivering information about the Challenge and updating them on the firm’s progress.

The Challenge divides participating firms into four participating levels:  firms with 5 to 24 attorneys; 25 to 99 attorneys; 100 to 499 attorneys and; 500 or more attorneys.  Firms with the highest percentages and dollar amounts in each level receive special public recognition and alumni donors at those firms are individually acknowledged and thanked for their support.  By participating in the Challenge, graduates will help BU Law be one of the very best law schools in the country, strengthen the School of Law network and enhance the profile of the graduate’s own law firm and organization.

The preferred designation for gifts made through the Challenge is the Law Annual Fund, although participating alumni may restrict their gifts for any Law School fund or program.  The unrestricted Law Fund supplements the School’s operating budget, providing support that can be used to meet the most immediate day-to-day operational needs of the School, including but not limited to financial aid, the Public Interest Project, the Loan Repayment Assistance Program, faculty recruitment and retention, student organizations and activities and facilities maintenance and renovation.  This year, due to the economic downturn, gifts to the Law Fund will support a $200,000 budgeted increase in financial aid awards to students for the coming fiscal year.

Gift crediting towards this year’s Challenge began on July 1, 2010 and ends June 30, 2011. Any gift made during this fiscal year timeframe counts towards this year's Challenge.

Fiscal year 2011 goal is 100% firm participation!
