Law Fund Giving
Dear Alumni & Friends,
To all of you who have made gifts to the Law Fund this year – thank you! Over the course of our first year as national Law Fund co-chairs, it has been wonderful to see the swell of support from thousands of alumni and the powerful impact that we all have on the School of Law.
We are delighted to report that the Law Fund raised $996,709 from 1,620 donors in the fiscal year that concluded onJune 30, 2013. Thanks to your generosity, that represents a 4.3% increase over last year and continues a three-year trend of increasing support for the Law Fund. This continued support from alumni and friends is proof of the School’s terrific momentum, and we hope you will do your part to ensure that it continues next year and beyond.
As you now know, the School of Law has publicly launched the Building on Excellence Campaign, the $80 million comprehensive effort to improve the campus with the construction of the Sumner M. Redstone Building and complete renovation of the tower; increase scholarship and financial aid support for students; enhance and maintain our superb faculty; expand and diversity academic programming; and provide essential unrestricted support through the Law Fund. The Law Fund was made one of the five priorities because of its importance to the School of Law. We will only succeed in reaching our Law Fund goal through the generous support from even more alumni over the next several years. Your annual gifts to the Law Fund are put to immediate use by Dean O’Rourke for many important initiatives, including public interest fellowships for graduating students, additional scholarship support, expanded clinical programs, and student/faculty collaborations, just to mention a few.
We have very much enjoyed our first year as the national Law Fund co-chairs, and we are excited for the coming year. Please plan to join us this new fiscal year in supporting our great institution with an unrestricted gift to the Law Fund. We thank you for all you do for BU Law, and wish you all the best as we head into the holiday season.

The School of Law deeply appreciates those donors whose commitment to this institution and trust in its leadership inspires them to make their annual gifts to the School completely unrestricted to the Law Annual Fund.
2013 Class Gift
Each year, the graduating class has an opportunity to leave its mark on Boston University School of Law by participating in the Class Gift. In supporting this effort, students not only show their school – and class – pride, but also have an impact on BU Law’s programs.
The 2013 graduating class had a participation rate of 13.8% and raised $3,075 for the School. In addition, Gerry Cohen (’62) provided a match worth $4,000, bringing the total raised for the 2013 Class Gift to $7,075. Thank you to the 58 class donors and especially to the Class Gift committee [insert link to alumni volunteers page] for all their hard work.
The reunion giving cycle spans a two-year period (the fiscal year prior and the fiscal year of the fall Reunion celebration), and this year the reunion classes raised a total of $904,919 (Law Fund and non-Law Fund gifts). The class of 1962 raised the most money this year with an impressive $508,556 – breaking a record for the 50th Reunion set by the class of 1953 ten years ago. Well done to all the participating classes!
Thanks you to all who attended and contributed and especially to the 54 reunion committee members [insert link to alumni volunteers]. We look forward to seeing you all again in five years!
Law Firm Challenge
The Law Firm Challenge (LFC) builds the BU Law community at firms with five or more graduates by having firms compete for the highest total dollars raised and the highest participation rate. It creates a sense of community among graduates, enhances firm pride, increases the firms’ reputation among BU Law students, and educates alumni about current activities at the law school. There were 8 LFC captains for FY13. [insert link to alumni volunteers page]
We tracked 134 firms for the LFC in FY13 with a total of 1,753 alumni. Of this group, there were 284 donors for a participation rate of 16.2%. LFC donors gave a total of $1,244,240 in both Law Fund and non-Law Fund gifts.
Congratulations to all of our LFC winners!
