Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Graduating Class Gift?

A: The Graduating Class Gift is a collective contribution made by a graduating School of Law class.  A Class Gift Committee of graduating 3L and LL.M. students coordinate and lead the gift-giving program. The Class Gift provides an opportunity to commemorate your experience at BU Law and participate in a long legacy of BU Law alumni support.

Q: Why does the School need our contributions?

A: In order to maintain and improve its competitive position, BU Law relies on the ongoing investment of its alumni. While many of our alumni have been generous, we need to continue to communicate to our current students and recent graduates the need to invest in the ongoing value of their degrees.  Compared to its competition, BU Law has a relatively low endowment.  This means that the School is more dependent on tuition and alumni support than other schools.  Gifts of any size help make the Graduating Class Gift program a success.

Q: How will my gift be used?

A: Your gift strengthens the BU Law Fund, which directly supports current and future BU Law students in the following areas:

    • Financial Aid and Scholarships
    • Faculty Recruitment and Retention
    • The Public Interest Project
    • The Loan Repayment Assistance Program
    • Academic Programs
    • Moot Court
    • International Programs
    • Student Organizations and Services

You can also designate your gift to a specific program or area of BU Law most important to you. All gifts count toward Class Gift participation regardless of gift designation. If you'd like more information on designating your gift, please contact Caroline Kernan at

Q: What is the goal of the Graduating Class Gift Program?

A: Our goal is 100% participation - gifts in any amount make a difference and are greatly appreciated. Your participation translates into an endorsement of support for BU Law, which impacts the reputation of the School in competitive rankings, and motivates fellow alumni, individuals, and law firms to give to BU Law. All gifts and pledges received by June 30 will count toward the participation goal. Final Graduating Class Gift totals will be posted after June 30.
