Welcome from Student Affairs
At Boston University School of Law, we actively seek transfer students because they enrich our school and are successful here. Some have secured prestigious internships with judges; others have gained membership to journals, and some have become journal editors their third year. They also do well academically.
We know it can be hard to switch schools. If we accept you as a new student, we immediately provide you with contact information for current BU Law students who volunteer to answer questions you have and to tell you more about the School before you arrive. You’ll also have an opportunity to do a writing competition if you want to try to gain membership on a journal. We hold an orientation meeting with all transfer students before school starts to acclimate you to the School and to provide you with detailed information on career services and our upperclass moot court competitions. Our Student Government Association (SGA) also selects a transfer student SGA delegate, who represents your interests. Finally, you’ll have a faculty advisor who arranges a social gathering for you, and who serves as a resource to help you with course selection and other academic issues.
I hope to welcome you to BU Law!
As a BU Law transfer student, we’ll ensure you have:
Mentorship: You’ll receive names and contact information for several upperclass students who have volunteered to answer your questions over the summer. And once you arrive on campus, you’ll have a faculty advisor, Professor Jack Beermann.
A plan: You’ll attend an orientation before classes start to discuss courses, career development programs and deadlines, moot court competitions, and more. Your faculty advisor will advise you on all things academic. And the Career Development Office is open to you from day one.
A new community: Your social life begins immediately with a kick-off barbecue with students, faculty and staff during orientation. You’ll enjoy outings with other transfer students, forming a community of your own. You will also learn about the many social programs sponsored by our Student Government Association (which has a transfer student delegate) and our diverse student organizations.
