Gain a semester of full-time legal work experience.

The Semester-in-Practice Program is our full-time, full immersion externship program. Students work full-time for an entire semester either locally or anywhere in the world. The Semester-in-Practice Program offers three options:

Human Rights Externship

Follow your passion working at a domestic or international human rights organization. Our most popular placement is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva, Switzerland. Other opportunities abound in Istanbul, Vienna, Strasbourg, and New York.

Government Lawyering in Washington, DC

Experience the fast pace of our nation’s capital while working on cutting-edge issues in Washington. Recent participants have interned at NPR, the US State Department, and the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Independent Proposal Externship

Develop your own proposal for a full-time externship. Recent placement include the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (New York), Reveille Productions (Los Angeles), the Maria Shriver National Center on Poverty Law (Chicago), and National Public Radio (Washington, DC).
