Constantinos is studying the interactions between polymers and nucleic acids. Nucleic acids are charged polymers, and interact in interesting ways with a variety of material surfaces. By determining the specific mechanisms of these interactions, Constantinos hopes to design new materials to grab and release nucleic acids reversibly and with high efficiency. These new materials are aimed at improving small scale sample preparation for diagnostics applications.
