After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Communications in 1988, Richard Tonetti served as vice president of operations for Hobbytown Stores, a multi-store Massachusetts retail and wholesale chain, for 22 years. In 1998, he enrolled at Clark University, became a Microsoft Systems Engineer, and implemented an online sales division. In 2011, Richard entered the higher education field at the University of Massachusetts Boston as a staff assistant to Chancellor Keith Motley, and part time assistant to UMASS System President Robert Caret. Less than a year later, he was hired as the director of the Chancellors’ Office at UMass Dartmouth, and also served as special assistant to Chancellor Divina Grossman. During his tenure at UMass Dartmouth, Richard served on the Senior Leadership Committee and the Chancellors’ Cabinet, working closing with the Provost, Advancement and Finance offices. For two years, he served as a member of the Chancellor’s Centennial Scholarship Committee, was a member of the Executive Chancellor Review Committee, Chancellor’s Inauguration Steering Committee and was chair of the Public Affairs Specialist Search Committee. Richard also teaches the Massachusetts Rider Education Program for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, is a certified IAABO Basketball Official, and advanced open water scuba diver.
