General Questions


Acceptance to the school or college to which you apply is not dependent on your acceptance to the Kilachand Honors College. You will first apply to one of BU’s eight degree-granting undergraduate schools and colleges, and you will then indicate your interest in the College separately. Your application will first be considered for admission to the school or college to which you have applied. Your application will be considered for Kilachand Honors College if you have been accepted to the school or college to which you applied.

We matriculate approximately 150 students each September. We will continue to limit the number of students for this elite program in the future.

No, Kilachand students do not incur additional tuition fees. Housing prices vary across campus, and first year Kilachand students live in Kilachand Hall. The current academic year rate for Kilachand Hall and other suite-style residences is $11,400.

The Kilachand Honors College is not a degree-granting college at Boston University. Kilachand Honors College students apply to and attend one of the eight degree-granting undergraduate schools and colleges. Your major program will be at the core of your studies but Kilachand Honors College will add so much more to your experience at BU.

As freshmen, you will live right on beautiful Bay State Road with other Kilachand Honors College students on dedicated floors in Kilachand Hall, where you will also meet KHC upperclassmen and students from a variety of other programs. Upperclassmen have the options to explore the housing option of their choice, which may include the Kilachand Honors College brownstone on Bay State Road.

Interested in Applying


First, apply to one of BU’s eight degree-granting undergraduate schools or college. After selecting the particular school or college you are interested in applying to on the Common Application for Boston University, you would then be prompted to indicate whether or not you are interested in applying to Kilachand Honors College. If you indicate that you are, you would then be prompted to complete the supplemental Kilachand essay.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the program and the integrated curriculum, we are unable to accommodate students who did not matriculate into the University and Kilachand Honors College as freshmen.

Waiting for an Answer


Congratulations on your acceptance to BU! To determine whether or not you were admitted to Kilachand Honors College, please log on to the Applicant Link and click on the Decisions tab. If you were invited to participate in the Kilachand Honors College, you will notice a Kilachand Honors College tab. If you click on the Kilachand Honors College tab, you will find a welcome and invitation from our director, Professor Carrie Preston.

You will be notified if you are admitted at the same time you are notified if you have been accepted to your school or college of enrollment at Boston University. Because of the volume of applications we receive, you will not receive notification if you are not offered a place in the Kilachand Honors College.

Absolutely. To meet with a current student or to sit in on a Kilachand Honors College class, contact us directly.

Yes. If you are accepted to BU and the Kilachand Honors College, you are allowed to decline Kilachand Honors College enrollment but still attend BU.

Scholarships


The Presidential Scholarship is not related to the Kilachand Honors College. While it is possible to receive the Presidential Scholarship and be accepted to Kilachand Honors College, being awarded the Presidential Scholarship is not an indication of acceptance to Kilachand Honors College.

Enrollment in the Kilachand Honors College is independent of scholarship awards. However, as a program for high-achieving students, many Kilachand Honors College students are scholarship recipients.

Definitely. Students who apply to Kilachand Honors College are considered for the same awards as non-Kilachand Honors College students.

KHC Courses

We cap the Kilachand Honors College freshman seminars at 12 students. Therefore, we simply do not have the room to accommodate non-Kilachand Honors College students.

Students who are not enrolled in Kilachand Honors College will not be given credit for our courses.
