Projects
The
Shtetl Economic History Project
The
goal of this project is to enhance the historical understanding
of the shtetl (the small and mid-size Jewish communities
of Eastern Europe). Prof. Thomas Glick began this project
in spring of 2002 with the purchase by Boston University
of the Iacob Bercovici Business Archive. The collection
includes close to 4000 documents which reveal the economic
and social aspects of the life of Jews living in Bacau,
Romania at the beginning of the 20th Century. More information
about this project can be found at its website.
Primo
Levi Project
Boston
University’s Center for Italian and European Studies
(CIES), located in Padua, Italy initiated the Primo
Levi Project (PLP) in September 2003. The Project is
a research and educational project directed by Professor
Paolo Bernardini (Boston University) and funded by the UCEI
(Unione delle Comunità Ebraiche Italiane). Its goal
is to foster research and undergraduate and graduate courses,
as well as public awareness, in the areas of Italian Jewish
History, European Jewish History, and Holocaust Studies
as they relate to Italy. The Project will include a number
of public conferences and talks by scholars and other eminent
personalities. The first series of talks open to the public
was organized in collaboration with the Università
degli Studi di Padova. In spring 2006 the Elie Wiesel Center
and the Primo Levi Project will co-sponsor an international
conference on modern Italian Jewish history. For more information
on all aspects of the Primo Levi Project, please contact
Paolo Bernardini at pb@bu.edu.
