The Valle de Naco, in NW Honduras, is located in the region usually identified as the eastern frontier of Mesoamerica. The Spaniards found a thriving commercial center at Naco, an important link in an extensive exchange network. Preliminary field investigations indicate that the Valle de Naco is extremely rich in archaeological remains and offers excellent prospects for the study of long-distance trade along the eastern frontier of the Maya area.
