This is a report of a statistical analysis of the destruction of archaeological and cultural resources in Belize, Central America. The statistics clearly show that looting to supply the art market of the United States is responsible for most of the damage to archaeological sites in Belize. The findings of this study contradict the argument that opponents of the UNESCO Convention have raised, namely that government neglect and the fast pace of development in the Third World are responsible for more damage than the looting of sites to supply the art market of the United States.
