Douglas V. Campana
A Natufian Shaft-Straightener from Mugharet El Wad, Israel: An Example of Wear-Pattern Analysis
Journal of Field Archaeology 6 (1979) 237--242

In 1928 a deer scapula bearing a large perforation was found at the Natufian site of Mugharet el Wad, Mount Carmel, Israel. A close examination of the use-wear appearing on this unique object, and comparison with experimentally manufactured and utilized bone implements, indicate that it was used in the smoothing and straightening of wooded shafts.
