The Material Culture Registry described below is presently being used by the Joint Expedition to Tell el-Hesi to record all excavated material except ceramics. The Registry is designed to give those involved in the field analysis of material a maximum amount of information about the excavated context of any given sample and to return the results of analysis to excavators quickly and in good order. The system has been found useful both in developing excavation strategy and in preparing material for final publication.
