25th International Symposium on Archaeometry, Athens, Greece, 1986
The 25th International Symposium on Archaeometry was held May 19--23, 1986, in Athens, Greece, under the auspices of the Greek Atomic Energy Commission and the Greek Ministry of Culture. The program was divided into sessions on Inorganic Dating, Provenance, Ancient Metallurgy, Organic Dating, Non-Metallic Technology, and Prospecting. A half-day archaeological "theme-session" was devoted to "The Transition from the Late Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age in the Aegean." The proceedings were opened by a special lecture by Prof. Manolis Andronikos of the University of Thessaloniki (Salonika) on his excavation of the tombs at Vergina. The presentation summed up the growing evidence that the tombs are those of Macedonian kings, including Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great. The proceedings of the symposium are to be published in 1987 by Elsevier Science Publication Co., Inc.
