To explore the connection between economic racism and political violence, we are hosting an international scholarly conference, “Dispossession. The Plundering of German Jewry, 1933-1945 and Beyond,” from November 9-11, 2014. “Dispossession” brings together twenty-five scholars working on the financial history and cultural meanings of the Nazi theft of assets belonging to Jews. Panels will consider the methods by which Jews were robbed, the kinds of assets stolen, and the difficult process of restitution after 1945.
