Semester Verification for All International Students
January 26, 2004
is the deadline is for all international students to complete
either the initial ISSO check-in (new students) or Student
Semester Verification (continuing students).
Failure to complete an initial ISSO
check-in at the ISSO or Student Semester Verification
each semester could jeopardize your legal immigration status
in the U.S..
Initial Check-In Procedures for New International Students
ALL new international students must report
to the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO)
immediately upon arrival
in the U.S. to check-in. Please bring all relevant immigration
documents (i.e. passport, I-94 card,
Form(s) I-20, Form(s) DS-2019, etc) with you to the ISSO.
Boston University is required by federal regulation to notify
the Department of Homeland Security about the arrival and
registration of all students in F-1 immigration status and
J-1 exchange visitor classification at the beginning of an
academic program.
Please do not
hesitate to contact the
staff at the ISSO with any questions
concerning your immigration status or your adjustment
to Boston University.
"Semester Verification" Procedures for Continuing
International Students
Boston University is required by federal regulation to notify
the Department of Homeland Security about the physical presence
and registration of every student in F-1 immigration status
and J-1 exchange visitor classification each academic semester.
Therefore, we have implemented a process through which we
will verify your presence on-campus.
ALL continuing international students
in F-1 and J-1 classification must complete the "semester
verification" process
prior to the deadline to "add" class each semester.
Please report to one of the administrators listed below as
soon as possible and request "semester verification".
Please also be reminded that F-1 and J-1 students are required
to maintain a full-time registration status each semester.
Once you have completed the "semester verification" and
you have registered for full-time coursework, we will notify
the SEVIS system and the Department of Homeland Security
of your enrollment. Please do not hesitate to contact the
staff at the ISSO with any questions concerning semester
verification or your immigration status.
For continuing students only, select your college/school
from the list below to determine where you can check-in.
If your college/school is not listed, you will have to
check-in at the ISSO Office at 19 Deerfield St.
