The Communiqué is an on-going series of messages to departments who sponsor international scholars at Boston University. With the Communiqué, we offer information that helps in the processing of scholar immigration-related documents and petitions. We hope you find the Communiqué a useful tool in working with the ISSO and in successfully hiring and sponsoring scholars from around the world. Past Communiqués are archived on our web site. The ISSO Welcomes New Assistant Director for Scholar Services

The ISSO scholar services team is pleased to welcome Sharon Ralston. Sharon assumed the role of Assistant Director of Scholar Services with over fifteen years of experience working with international students, scholars, medical residents and their inviting academic departments on various immigration and employment issues. Interestingly, Sharon started her work with international scholars in 1997 right here at Boston University, so her name may be familiar to some of you who have been here awhile. Since then she has worked at the both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is thrilled to be back at Boston University.

Sharon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from James Madison University and a Master’s degree in Higher Education from Virginia Tech. She can be reached at sralston@bu.edu.

Scholar Services Team Advising Caseload

The ISSO scholar services team considers advisor caseload assignments based on the number of scholars present on our campuses each year. In order to account for an increase in the number of international scholars on the Charles River Campus, we have, for the first time, broken out a School/Campus from the standard campus split in order to allow for more equity amongst our team. More importantly, we hope that these new caseload assignments will allow us to better serve the Boston University community.

Effective October 1, please direct your international employment and sponsorship questions to the ISSO scholar services team as follows:

All Charles River Campus Schools [except College of Engineering]
[CAS, CELOP, CFA, CGS, COM, GRS, GSM, LAW, MET, SAR, SED, SHA, QST, SSW, STH]
