Staffing Changes at ISSO Scholar Services
Peter O’Meara has accepted a new position in the ISSO as International Student Advisor, where he will assume the responsibility of advising international students enrolled at Boston University. Peter’s past experience in teaching as well as his broad expertise in advising scholars and exchange visitors on matters of immigration status and employment authorization make him uniquely qualified for this new role.
Peter has served with the Scholar Services team for more than three years and we are grateful for his many contributions. We wish him well in this new endeavor and are pleased that he will continue working at the ISSO. Should you wish to reach Peter, he can still be reached at pomeara@bu.edu.
In other staffing news, the ISSO is pleased to welcome Olivia Whitman as our newest International Scholar Advisor. Olivia joins Boston University from Middlebury College in Vermont. After three years studying and teaching in Germany, Austria and Sweden, Olivia returned to the U.S. in 2003 to begin her career in international student and scholar advising. Olivia holds a B.A. in International Studies from Middlebury College, and earned Master’s degrees from Stockholm University (International Education) and Fairleigh Dickinson University (Multilingual Education). Olivia can be reached at owhitman@bu.edu.
Effective immediately, Olivia will be the key ISSO contact for scholars in J-1 and TN classification. Her principal responsibilities will be assisting university departments in hosting and hiring foreign national scholars and advising international scholars in J-1 and TN status on issues related to immigration status, benefits, employment and travel.
