No Patient Care Letter. Boston University is designated as a J-1 Program Sponsor in the categories of Research Scholar, Professor, Short-Term Scholar and Specialist only. We are not qualified to sponsor foreign medical graduates for programs which include clinical care of patients. Prospective scholars who hold a medical degree from a country outside of the U.S. must submit a letter from the Dean of their host college or school at BU to indicate that their intent is to conduct academic research only and that they will not have responsibility for any clinical patient care.

Prospective scholars or employees whose responsibilities will include clinical patient care should consult with ISSO to determine a more appropriate immigration sponsorship alternative.
