Mission & Vision
Accelerating Our Energy Future
The Boston University Institute for Sustainable Energy (ISE) translates sustainable energy research into urgent action. The ISE is a university-wide center dedicated to developing energy systems that will provide abundant, universally accessible, and sustainable energy sources for emerging and advanced economies. Our approach combines interdisciplinary research, policy analysis, and collaborative engagement with partners at every level—from individual energy and water utilities to cities, states, and countries.
This enormous challenge requires new technologies and energy processes, new forms of financing and financial institutions, new policy approaches and forms of public governance, and new companies, industries, and markets.
Creating a sustainable energy system is one of the great research challenges of this century — a challenge that calls for new thinking across a wide range of disciplines and skills.
