Specialization: International Security, U.S. Political Institutions,
Icelandic Affairs.
Affiliated with Boston University since 1985, Professor Corgan
has also served as Chairman of the Department of Naval Science and
Adjunct Professor in the
Departments of Political Science and History. He specializes in
American government institutions, international security studies, and Icelandic
government and
politics. He has participated in extensive government service in political
and military planning (especially NATO). He also is a regularly appearing media analyst
on security and political affairs for many Icelandic and Boston media outlets. In his
naval career, he was a Surface Warfare Officer with two combat tours, an instructor at
the US Naval Academy, the Dean of Academics for the Vietnamese Naval
Academy of Nha Trang, a Professor of Strategy and of National Security Affairs at the US Naval War College, Political Advisor to the Commander of the Iceland Defense
Air Force, and headed the NROTC Unit at Boston University.
Professor Corgan's most recent book
is Iceland and Its Alliances: Security for a Small State (2002).
He taught
at the University of Iceland in 2001 on a Fulbright fellowship and
is a Founding Partner of the Center for Small State Studies at that University.
His writings on Nordic security have also been published in Swedish
and Icelandic. He has been invited to return to the University of Iceland for research and lecturing during the Fall of 2006.
