Undergraduate Courses
International Relations courses at the undergraduate level cover a wide variety of topics and provide students with a solid grounding in the theory and practice of the discipline. Courses at the 200 - 400 level are open to any undergraduate who has taken IR 271 and met any other prerequisite(s) for the particular course. Dual level courses (numbered in the 500's) are open to upper-class International Relations majors only. If a student is not an IR major, the instructor's approval is required.
Graduate Courses
There are many graduate level courses offered by the department. Classes are offered in theory/policy, economics, regional and security studies, and international environmental issues. Graduate students in the department are allowed to enroll in graduate level courses outside the department with prior approval from the Director of Graduate Studies. Students may not take more than two courses outside of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Boston University. For a list of approved core and elective courses, please see the core requirements page.
Dual level courses (numbered in the 500's) are open both to graduate students and to upper-class International Relations major undergraduates. 700 level specialty courses are open to graduate students only.
