Current Projects

This project analyzes developments in North American climate change politics and policy making. Research conducted under the project examines the state of climate change policy at national, regional and local levels across the continent. The project studies drivers of climate change policy developments at multiple levels of governance, assessing the possibilities and limitations of developing areas of climate change policy and action. The research project includes a conference in Washington D.C. at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in May 2006. The project is led by Henrik Selin of Boston University and Stacy D. VanDeveer of the University of New Hampshire. Information and videos from the conference can be found here.

Policy Space for Development in the WTO and Beyond

This project of the Global Governance and Development Project consists of a series of research and outreach efforts that examine the extent to which current and proposed trade rules enhance the ability of developing country governments to deploy effective development policies. Research is underway that evaluates existing rules and current proposals under the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the numerous bilateral and regional trade treaties that have recently been signed or that are currently in negotiation.

Lead by GGD Program Director Kevin P. Gallagher, research and outreach for this project are often in collaboration with researchers at the Global Development and Environment Institute (GDAE) at Tufts University in the United States, Research and Information Systems (RIS) in India, International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) in Geneva, Switzerland, Trade Knowledge Network (TKN), and the Program for Science, Technology, and Development (PROCIENTEC) at the El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.

Funding for this work has been provided by the Rockefeller Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, ICTSD, TKN, and GDAE.
