Allen Speight (Ph.D., University of Chicago) is a philosopher whose work has ranged over a number of issues at the intersection of philosophy and religion, from the concept of forgiveness to the relation between art and religion in post-Kantian thought. A recipient of Fulbright, DAAD, NEH and Berlin Prize fellowships, his research has largely focused on the German philosophical tradition, especially Hegel and German Idealism. He is the author of Hegel, Literature and the Problem of Agency (Cambridge University Press, 2001) and The Philosophy of G.W.F. Hegel (McGill-Queen's University Press/Acumen, 2008) and the editor, with Brady Bowman, of Hegel: Heidelberg Writings (Cambridge University Press, 2009). In the Philosophy Department, he regularly teaches the undergraduate and graduate courses associated with the Institute's lecture series (PH 456/656) and courses as well in ethics and aesthetics. He also teaches in BU's Core Curriculum.
LYNN NIIZAWA

Lynn Niizawa (B.A., St. John's College) is a graduate student in the Philosophy Ph.D. program at Boston University. She is currently preparing her dissertation proposal on an analysis of contemporary approaches to responsible ideals, including integrity, authenticity and care. She is the translator of "The Status of Anomalies in the Philosophy of Diderot," by Annie Ibrahim (in C.T. Wolfe., ed., Monsters and Philosophy (Texts in Philosophy): College Publications, 2005).
