Courses

Syllabi are for course approval and reference only. Students will receive up-to-date syllabi when their courses begin.

Students register for two four-credit intensive language courses and choose two four-credit electives. Electives are taught in English.

Required Course

Arabic Language (all levels)
Participants are placed into language courses based on in-country oral proficiency interviews and written exams. Language courses are offered at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

Focuses on the politics informing constructions of gender and the underpinnings of theological and cultural rites in gender relations in Morocco and North Africa; examines the questions of women's status in modern Islamic states and societies. Instructor: Driss Maghraoui. 4cr. Syllabus

Explores how the colonial experience shaped North African culture and society, and how the North African postcolonial state negotiated the legacy of colonialism and responded to the dynamics underpinning global politics. 4 cr. Syllabus
