Fall Semester: August 17th to December 18th, 2009
Spring Semester:
February 8th to July 24th, 2010

Academic Year: August 17th, 2009 to mid-July, 2010

Students who have advanced German language skills may participate in Boston University´s Dresden Internship Program, in the culturally rich city of Dresden, Germany. The program combines language study and coursework with a professional internship, and is ideal for those students who want insight into the German culture outside the academic world. Students enrolled in this option choose an internship in the place of one of their university courses. After completing the intensive four-credit German-language and cultural-immersion course (CAS GE 300), students are placed in their internships.

Students begin their internships during week nine and continue to work for an average of 30 hours a week. They also enroll in two or more courses at the TUD and attend three to four faculty directed sessions on the academic component of their internship. During the final week of the program, students attend a capstone seminar in which they deliver the final presentations on their academic internship projects.

Internship placements vary according to students’ interests, backgrounds, previous work experiences, and language abilities. Most internships are offered in business, television, human services, international relations and theater; however, the program provides opportunities in a variety of disciplines, so students from all majors are encouraged to apply. German faculty teach all TUD courses.

Host Institution
Technische Universität Dresden (TUD)
The Technische Universität Dresden is one of the oldest and most prestigious technical universities in Germany. Its name now only partially describes its mission, however. Since German reunification, the TUD has doubled in size by incorporating a full array of humanities, social sciences, and "pure" science departments as well.
