Summer Semester: June 20th - July 31st, 2010

Argentina Cultural Studies: Writing in the Americas offers students the opportunity to live and study in Buenos Aires, Argentina's intellectual and cultural capital and one of Latin America's most sophisticated cities. Distinctly influenced by its European heritage, Buenos Aires is known for its beautiful architecture and rich cultural life. It is home to many museums, theatres, art galleries, and bookstores. Course-related excursions will provide students with an opportunity to explore the city's vibrant cultural scene.

Courses will be offered on Argentine culture and on the work of Jorge Luis Borges, as well as recent literary and intellectual developments. Classes will take place at the Universidad de Palermo. The neighborhood of Palermo in Buenos Aires is closely related to the life and work of Borges and is a constant reference in his writing. Many of the embassies, beautiful parks and squares are located in Palermo, along with cafes, theaters and shops. Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn eight Boston University credits. This program is also offered at the graduate level where, upon successful completion, students will earn four to six Boston University credits.
