NEW—An American (Semester) in Auckland
We are pleased to announce a major restructuring of our Auckland Internship
Program. Beginning with the Fall 2006 semester, we are shifting to a an American-length
semester built around the internship experience. This model, familiar to you
as the semester structure for our London, Dublin, and Sydney programs, allows
students to work in their internship placements for a solid eight weeks and
complete three other courses for a total of sixteen Boston University credits.
With this restructuring we will be working with a new academic partner, the
Auckland University of Technology, which is particularly strong in our most
popular internship areas, including journalism, communications, business, hospitality,
computer science and information technology, and
physical and occupational therapy. We will be retaining the popular course,
Aotearoa New Zealand: History and Society, and its Cook Islands excursions.
As with our other internship programs, courses will be custom-designed for
Boston University program participants and taught by AUT faculty. We'll have
pictures soon on our website.
AUSTRALIA
A New Home in Sydney
Over the holiday break the Sydney Internship Program moved into its new home,
the Fusion centre, just around the corner from our student residence, Unilodge.
The new building gives us greatly expanded office, classroom, computer, library
and work space, and will settle us down for the next several years. As always,
we’re located in the Chippendale section of Sydney, very close to UTS
and less than a mile from Sydney University, where our students continue to
enjoy access to athletic and other facilities.
Two of our longstanding summer programs have adjusted their schedules to better
fit the needs of students:
The Sydney
Internship Program will now be an eight-week, eight
credit program, combining an internship with an elective course in
Australian politics or cinema. The dates are June 2- July 26, 2006.
Also available is the 8-credit Sydney
Film Studies Program, built around the annual Sydney
Film Festival. Dates are May 26-July 14, 2006.
Also, the London
Liberal Arts Program (formerly London Summer Term),
May 22 – 30 2006 offers students two 4-credit courses from
a variety of fields including politics, history, law, communications,
journalism economics, psychology and art.

New Guadalajara
Engineering Program launched its first semester this
month at the Guadalajara campus of the Instituto Tecnológico
y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, in Guadalajara, Mexico. Like
our popular Dresden Engineering Program, the Guadalajara program
is designed for second-semester sophomores in all engineering majors.
Summer 2006
ITALY
NEW—Tuscany
The Tuscany Landscape Painting Program offers anyone with an interest in painting
the unique opportunity to spend six weeks at the breathtaking Tuscan villa
of Capitignano overlooking the olive groves and vineyards of the Mugello Valley.
The villa is an unparralled setting for landscape painting and the program
is a once-in -a-lifetime opportunity. Naturally, we complement the villa instruction
with field trips into the museums and architectural masterpieces of Florence,
and offer either an art history course to go along with the painting class,
or introductory Italian. The only requirement is that students have at least
some painting experience.
SENEGAL
NEW— Dakar
Senegal
The Dakar Senegalese Studies Program offers six weeks in Dakar, the vibrant
costal capital of Senegal Africa’s westernmost country.
Once in Dakar, students will have the chance to study one of the principle
spoken languages, Wolof, as well as drum and dance, or Senegalese literature
and film. Students will be housed with Senegalese families, which promises
a profound cultural experience, and of course, field trips and excursions to
complement coursework.
