Teaching the City

The Initiative on Cities is excited to host Teaching the City as part of its Urban Seminar Series, a conversation with BU faculty and experts focused on engaging students with the city BU calls home.

Urban universities experience all of the benefits, and many of the challenges, of cities. It seems clear that teaching about the city is a critical way by which universities can help their students build strong and healthy ties to their home cities and to urban centers more generally. Are universities taking advantage of all the opportunities to teach the city? Are there innovative new approaches for turning the city into a classroom?

Join us for a panel discussion with a diverse group of experts who teach in and about the city, featuring Daniel Bluestone (Director, Preservation Studies, BU), Dennis Carlberg (Sustainability Director, BU), Jacey Greece (Clinical Assistant Professor, Community Health Sciences, BU), James Pasto (Senior Lecturer, Arts & Sciences Writing Program, BU), and Madhu Dutta-Koehler (Program Coordinator & Adjunct Professor, City Planning & Urban Affairs, BU).
