Description

Debating the Practice of Scientific Research: Promises and Pitfalls of Interdisciplinary Research Within Universities.

An essential role and responsibility of a leading research university is to advance new knowledge through scientific discovery and to develop new technologies. Meeting major challenges in the physical, life, engineering, and medical sciences will require the synthesis of knowledge and techniques from multiple disciplines. Boston University has been a leader in generating interdisciplinary research programs in several key areas including systems biology, photonics, nanotechnology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computational sciences, and space physics. This symposium addresses critical issues facing American research universities as they implement and embed the process of interdisciplinary scientific research and education into their culture.
