Description

Making President Murlin’s Vision Real.

Lemuel Murlin, third president of Boston University, envisioned a university "in the heart of the city, in the service of the city." Murlin would be heartened to see how concretely and abidingly his vision has been realized in the University's unique partnerships with and contributions to the City and its environs. In this session, we explore such questions as: Does engagement detract from — or distract us from — enlightenment? Is there an educational benefit for the student? What should we do when the University’s legitimate goals do not align with the City’s goals? And can a great university be a good neighbor?
