Serge A. Ricard

Dr. Serge Ricard is professor emeritus of history and American civilization at the Sorbonne Nouvelle (University of Paris III). He received his BA degree from Davidson College and his Ph.D from the University of Paris (Sorbonne).  He has published extensively on a wide range of topics, including American diplomacy, imperialism, Theodore Roosevelt, immigration, and ethnicity in the United States. His books include Théodore Roosevelt: Principes et pratique d’une politique etrangère (1991), The Mass Media in America: An Overview (1998), and The “Manifest Destiny of the United States in the 19th Century: Ideological and Political Aspects (1999). He edited A Companion to Theodore Roosevelt in 2011.  He has taught at the Universities of Oran (Algeria), Aix-Marseille, Montpellier and the University of Texas at Austin. He served for many years as the Director of the Research Group of North American Studies (GRENA) and the (Institut de Recherche du Monde Anglophone) of the University of Aix-Marseille, where he established the Center for North American and Latin American Studies.
