GeroRich Training Initiative
The GeroRich Training Initiative provides
small grants to social work education programs participating
in The John A. Hartford Foundation GeroRich Program.
Through this initiative, IGSW is enabling GeroRich-sponsored
programs to build upon their expertise in aging curriculum
to offer high-quality training in geriatric social work.
These grants have enabled recipients to enhance
their partnerships with local agencies in order to share
their resources in aging with social work practitioners
in their communities. The initiative is a partnership
between IGSW and the National Center for Gerontological
Social Work Education (NCGSWE), and is endorsed by SAGE-SW
and the Council on Social Work Education.
Last spring, IGSW awarded nine grants ranging from
$2,500-$3,000, please see our list of GeroRich
Grantees.
Applications were selected using the following criteria.
Training approaches that demonstrate innovation
and advance our understanding of how practice skills
in aging can be taught in continuing education
Clearly delineated gerontological competencies
to be acquired by training participants
Matching funds and institutional support
for the proposed gerontological social work training
Training that builds upon community partnerships
Plan to ensure the sustainability beyond
this one-time funding.
Consideration was also given to regional and geographic
diversity, the distribution of BSW, MSW and joint sites,
and the value-added by a consortium among social work
education programs and local NASW chapters.
