Schedules

Over the last two decades, the Human Resource Education program has developed schedules to match the lifestyles, preferences, and learning objectives of its students. By ranking the factors of cost, specific area of focus, and time limitations in order of importance, students ensure the selection of a schedule that is most appropriate for their needs.

Part Time

For students who have time but limited financial resources, the part-time program offers the ability to attend up to three classes (11-1/2 credits) per semester. With some exceptions, most courses in the program are offered in the evening. Many students continue to work within their organizations while earning their degrees. In consultation with their advisor, students may still be able to slightly modify their program of study, but attendance may not be feasible because some courses are scheduled to meet during the day. Once accepted to an HRE degree program, students have six years to complete their program of study for an EdM or CAGS, and up to seven years for an EdD. Master's students utilizing this schedule generally complete their degrees or certificate in 18 to 24 months.

Full Time

The HRE full-time program is intended to be flexible and multidisciplinary to meet the diverse needs of its students. This is accomplished in part by allowing a substantial number of credits for electives. In consultation with their advisor, students are able to take advantage of the wide array of courses both inside the School of Education and at other Boston University Schools and Colleges. Due to restrictions on employment, as well as visa and organizational sponsorship time limits, international students tend to prefer full time enrollment. Full-time students may register for up to five classes per semester (18 credits). With a full-time commitment, most students complete their program of study in 12 to 18 months.
