You may cancel your coverage or enroll your new child in the following plans within 30 calendar days of your child’s birth or adoption:
Health and Dental Plans

Personal & Family Accident Insurance

Flexible Spending Accounts

Supplemental Life Insurance

Request the change through Employee Self Service at BUworks Central by selecting the option “Manage my Benefits – Life or Career Events”.
You will be required to provide a copy of your child’s birth or adoption certificate.

Update Beneficiary Designations for:


  • Life Insurance
  • Accident Insurance
  • Log in to BUworks.
  • Select the Employee Self Service tab.
  • In the Benefits Section, select BU Benefits Center
  • Select Update my Life/Accident Insurance Beneficiary
Complete a Beneficiary Change Form for


Request Time Off and/or Leave of Absence


Learn about the policies:

Make a Change to:


  • Address
  • Emergency contact
  • Employee withholding (W-4)

Explore your childcare options:


  • The Boston University Children’s Center is a full-time program for children ages infant through Pre-K.
  • Little Sprouts at BUMC is a full-time program for children ages 4 weeks through 5 years old.
  • Boston University has partnered with Bright Horizons to provide you with Back-Up Care for children, adults and elders for planned as well as last-minute circumstances.

Certain benefit plans may continue if you reduce to less than 100% of a full-time schedule, as described above. If you wish to discontinue or suspend your participation in any of these plans, you will need to request the change through Employee Self Service at BUworks Central by selecting the option “Manage my Benefits – Life or Career Events”. Re-enrollment in these plans is possible when you return to eligible status, as long as you request the change through Employee Self Service at BUworks Central by selecting the option “Manage my Benefits – Life or Career Events” and enroll within 30 days from the date you return to eligible status.
