Pay Schedule and Direct Deposit

At Boston University, employees are paid on either a weekly or monthly basis.

Weekly paid employees are in non-exempt positions, which include position grades 21–26, trades and custodial positions, police officers (Charles River Campus), and public safety officers (Medical Campus).

Weekly paid employees complete a weekly time sheet that they submit to their department and are paid each Friday for the hours worked in the previous week. Non-exempt Boston University employees are paid their regular hourly rate for hours worked up to 40 hours in a week and 1 ½ times their regular hourly rate for any hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a given week. Represented employees should consult their union contract for specific salary information.

Monthly paid employees are in exempt positions, which includes grades 41 and above (Charles River Campus) and grades 51 and above (Medical Campus). In most departments of the Charles River Campus, exempt employees complete a monthly time sheet that they submit to their department administrator or payroll coordinator. Monthly employees are paid on the last business day of the month for the month worked.

Direct Deposit
It’s easy, it’s safe and it’s green!

As a new Boston University employee, you are required to set up a direct deposit account for your paycheck. You are able to do this quite easily by accessing the Employee Link. You will have access to your information on the Employee Link as soon as the administrative offices have processed the necessary paperwork and set you up on the University Payroll System. You also will need a BU login name and a Kerberos Password.

Once you set up your direct deposit account, you will be able to view your pay stub online. Just go to the Employee Link and select “View Pay Stub”. Your Kerberos password will ensure your privacy. On your designated pay day, you will receive an email notifying you that you have been paid.

Please note that employees working in positions represented by Local 615 are strongly encouraged to establish a direct deposit account using the same method, however a direct deposit account is not required.
