Fill an Open Position—Medical Campus

Do you have an opening on your staff due to a promotion, resignation or transfer? Or, perhaps your department is growing and you received approval to add a new position. Either way, you can fill a vacant position in your department by following these simple steps.

Create a Job Requisition (PS-1)

First, you must complete a job requisition (PS-1) form.

After your department manager approves the job requisition, HR will post the job on the BU HR website based on the information included in the written job description. Please make sure the job description you provide is accurate and reflects the total scope of the position. Visit the job descriptions for more information.

Once HR posts the approved requisition online, both internal and external candidates may begin to apply.

Giving Your Job Posting Additional Exposure

If you aren’t receiving enough applications or attracting the right candidates and feel your posting needs greater exposure, contact Human Resources to discuss advertising in other print or electronic media. All outside advertising must be coordinated through HR. We can provide you with print and electronic media recommendations, creative services, sample ads and copy, posting requirements, deadlines, and estimated costs to help develop your external advertisement. Please note that all outside advertising and media costs will be paid for by your department.

The Hiring Process

  • The designated recruiter in the Employment Section of Human Resources will screen and forward to you resumés of all qualified applicants (both, internal and external candidates) through OpenHire.
  • The designated recruiter will contact you to review qualifications and forward any qualified internal candidates for your consideration.
  • The designated recruiter will work with you to set up interviews as requested by the hiring manager and the recruiter will make themselves available for an interview if requested.
  • The designated recruiter will ensure that all applicants complete an employment application, Conflict of Interest form, Disclosure and Acknowledgement for background checks, and Release and Authorization for background checks in the HR Office.
  • After interviewing candidates, you will provide feedback to the designated recruiter.
  • You will check the final candidates’ references yourself or the designated recruiter will assist you with such reference checks and advise you of any issues.
  • Upon review, you will provide your hiring recommendation to the designated recruiter and discuss terms of employment such as start date, salary, etc.
  • The ETS will conduct past employment verification and academic credential verification on the final candidate.
  • Offers of employment will not be made until the background check has been conducted and the results have been reviewed by HR.
  • The designated recruiter will then make the formal offer of employment to the candidate.
  • If applicable, the designated recruiter will arrange for a pre-placement physical.
  • Once the candidate accepts, HR will close the job requisition and remove the position posting from the HR website.
  • You will be responsible for notifying all other candidates that the position is filled.
  • You will provide the recruiter with affirmative action information for all applicants interviewed in person.

Please note that all positions must be posted for at least five business days before an offer of employment can be made. All offers of employment must be made through HR. If you are ready to make an offer, contact your designated recruiter.
