Compensation Training

We recognize that not everyone is a compensation expert. However, as a manager or HR professional, you need to have a basic understanding of how Boston University administers compensation. To help you better understand the practices at Boston University, Human Resources offers workshops regarding compensation-related training.

  • To help you better understand the requirements for the positions to be classified as exempt, rather than non-exempt, under the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as the implications of noncompliance with the FLSA, we put together a “Compensation Basics: FLSA Exemption Testing” workshop. This workshop is available for individuals in supervisory roles and Human Resources Personnel though the  “Get Trained” Program as well as on-demand.  Your department can request this ON-DEMAND training by a Compensation team member; to schedule a session, contact the Charles River Campus Compensation team at hrcomp@bu.edu, or the Medical Campus Compensation at 617-638-4610.
  •  To assist you with the development of new and revised job descriptions, we offer a second workshop, “Compensation Basics: Writing Job Descriptions”.  Currently, this workshop is available for individuals in supervisory roles and Human Resources Personnel ON-DEMAND ONLY.
