Survivor Insurance

Boston University offers insurance plans that provide benefits to help your beneficiaries, in the event of your death.

Under the Basic Group Life Insurance Plan, you are automatically provided with basic coverage equal to one times your annual base salary, at no cost to you.

If you wish, you may, at your expense, also purchase Group Supplemental Life Insurance equal to one, two, three, four, or five times your annual base salary. You may also cover your spouse and children under this plan.

The Travel Accident Insurance Plan is also provided at no cost to you. It provides benefits to you or your beneficiaries if you suffer a covered injury or are injured or killed while traveling on authorized University business.

The Personal and Family Accident Insurance Plan provides benefits should you or your family members suffer a covered injury or be killed as the result of any accident on a worldwide, 24-hour basis. For University employees, this includes accidents on and off the job. You pay the cost for the amount of coverage you choose under this plan.

Once you have completed five years of service, the Supplemental Death Benefit Plan will automatically provide your beneficiaries with a lump-sum payment equal to one month’s base salary, in the event of your death. The benefits under this plan are provided free of charge and apply regardless of the amount of coverage you have through other University-sponsored plans.
