If Injured at Work—Medical Campus

It is vital that an employee injured at work immediately receive any necessary medical care. See below for a list of emergency contact information.

If you or a colleague is injured at work, please follow these steps:

  • If the injury is an emergency, call the BUMC Department of Public Safety at 617- 414-4413. Visit or call the Occupational & Environmental Medicine (OEM) at 617-638-8400 to receive treatment.
  • If OEM is closed at the time of the injury, go to the closest emergency room or your primary care physician.
  • The employee must schedule an appointment at OEM within 24 hours if he or she receives initial treatment outside OEM.
  • If the injury is not an emergency, the injured employee must be evaluated at OEM for injuries that occur during the Center’s normal hours of operation (9:30 AM to 4:00 PM).
  • Secure the accident scene.
  • The accident should be analyzed by the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS). You can contact Environmental Health & Safety by calling 617-638-8830.
  • Contact the Control Center at the Physical Plant and Environmental Health and Safety office at 617-638-8822 if a hazardous condition exists.
  • Occupational & Environmental Medicine must complete an Accident Report and Analysis form within 24 hours of the accident.
  • The employee should keep his or her supervisor informed of plans to return to work.
  • The supervisor and/or employee should contact Etlyn Steele at Human Resources at 617-638-4610 or via e-mail at esteele@bu.edu to report the accident.
