Other Time Off

To request any of the absences listed below, please submit a Time Off Request (TOR) by visiting BUworks Central and accessing Employee Self Service (ESS).

Type Reason Usage Eligibility
Unpaid Time Off Authorized absence from work without pay Must be approved by department. After an employee has exhausted his or her applicable Vacation Leave, Sick Leave, available Personal Days, and available Compensatory Time Off
Compensatory Time Off Authorized paid absence from work Unless explicitly stated in a collective bargaining agreement, employees must use this time within six (6) months of the day on which it was earned. Employees earn for hours worked on observed holidays and Intersession Closing days or during emergency closings of the University
Sympathy Leave When a death occurs in an employee’s immediate family. Immediate family members are the employee’s spouse, parents, parents-in-law, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, children, and members of the same household. Up to three (3) days time is available. Employees are eligible for Sympathy leave upon hire
Jury Duty Authorized paid absence from work. To complete compulsory jury duty service in an established federal or state court
