Quality, Access, And Affordability Of Health Care
Quality, Efficiency, and Patient Experience in U.S. Hospitals
The Commonwealth Fund awarded a $348,441 grant to HPRP to build upon its current survey database and to examine the relationships among: (a) our unique survey measures (i.e., clinicians’ assessments of quality, CQOs’ assessments of quality); (b) hospital-level composite measures of performance based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) condition-specific measures; and (c) other measures of quality and performance that include consumer assessments of quality (HCAHPS), hospital efficiency measures, hospital mortality measures, and hospital readmission measures. The study also includes case studies of 4 high-performing and 4 average-performing hospitals that analyze their organizational strategies for improving quality and efficiency. The project involves active participation from staff members of HRET and is scheduled to conclude in 2009. HPRP investigators include Alan B. Cohen and Joseph D. Restuccia (co-principal investigators), Michael Shwartz (principal statistician and co-investigator), Sally K. Holmes (co-investigator), and Jedediah Horwitt (project manager). The project team also includes staff members from HRET. The project is scheduled to conclude in 2009.
