Quality, Access, And Affordability Of Health Care
Healthcare HR Forum
With initial support from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the Healthcare HR Forum was launched in early 2004 to address the affordability of health care. The Forum enables the exchange of views about strategic human resources (HR) issues in health care and works to devise creative ways to counter rising health care costs in member organizations. The Forum is directed by Professor Fred Foulkes (director of the Human Resources Policy Institute, BU School of Management), with participation by several HPRP and Boston University faculty, including Alan B. Cohen, Joseph D. Restuccia, Michael Shwartz, and Dr. Richard H. Egdahl.
Forum members include the chief HR officers of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Boston Medical Center, Caritas Christi Health Care System, Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Boston, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Lahey Clinic, Lowell General Hospital (Lowell, MA), Partners Healthcare System, Tufts Health Plan, Tufts Medical Center, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Priority areas that have been addressed by the Forum include consumer-directed health care strategies, quality measurement, disease management programs, workforce development initiatives, labor unionization, and culturally competent healthcare systems.
