Quality Improvement Training: Scanning the Field
Funded by a $108,272 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the aim of this study was to assist the Foundation in identifying potential roles that it could play in increasing the number of health and healthcare workers who are highly proficient in process improvement methods. Completed in June 2008, this project used a combination of literature review, program review, key informant interviews, and focus groups to identify and assess currently available training opportunities and resources that could help healthcare workers to acquire process improvement skills. Study results were presented to the RWJF’s Human Capital Team, along with recommendations for developing programs, online training resource guides, and a RWJF-sponsored website to improve the knowledge base and skill sets of public and private health and healthcare workers, managers, and leaders in the theory and practice of process improvement. HPRP researchers included: Sally K. Holmes, principal investigator; Alan B. Cohen, co-principal investigator; and Jedediah Horwitt, project manager.
