How to Apply

Freshmen and transfer students can indicate their interest in up to three specialty residences on their Housing Interests Survey; no further application or approval is required.

Current students must complete an application and be approved to live in individual specialty residences. Current students must receive approval before they can select the residence during room selection in the spring or change rooms (through a direct swap, pull-in, or room change offer). This application process is administered by the Office of Residence Life.

How to apply (current students):

  1. Download a Specialty Residence Application/Re-Application form. (This is a PDF file; to view it, you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, you may visit Adobe's website to download this free software.) You may also pick up an application at any residence office.
  2. Determine whether or not you meet the requirements for each specialty residence in which you are interested.
  3. Complete an application form for each specialty residence (house and/or floor) that interests you and whose requirements you meet.
  4. Return your completed application form(s) to the residence office of the specialty residence to which you are applying.
  5. An e-mail approving or denying each application will be sent to you.

There are specific times each year when students are encouraged to apply for specialty residences (e.g., prior to the Room Selection process). However, students may submit an application at any time.

For more information about applying for specialty residences, contact the Office of Residence Life at 617-353-4380, or visit any residence office.
