How Assignments Are Made
Room assignments for freshmen and transfer students are made after
the following are received by the University:
A number of factors are considered when making room assignments
including residence and campus areas requested, initial date the
Housing Interests Survey is submitted, program of study, mutual
roommate requests, and space availability at the time the room assignment
is finalized.
Requests for a specific assignment are considered if there is available
space. Interest in a specific residence, residence type, or residence
rate does not guarantee placement in such.
If you are an entering student in the fall, your room assignment
will be confirmed over the summer (in July or August). Your confirmation
will contain your room assignment, on-campus mailing address and
telephone number, residence and dining plan charges, roommate's
name, and information regarding fall move-in. If you are an entering
student in the spring, you will be contacted by telephone or e-mail
with your room assignment in January before move-in begins.
Extended Housing
In the past decade, student demand has steadily increased because
of the quality and benefit of living in University housing. To accommodate
growing demand and to provide for fluctuations that exceed our capacity,
Boston University has leased property and assigned students to housing
that is close to, but not on, the University's main campus. These
units are generally located in nearby hotels.
