Direct swap period begins: Wednesday, August 27, 2008
Direct swap period ends: Tuesday, December 9, 2008*

Spring 2009
Direct swap period begins: Friday, January 9, 2009
Direct swap period ends: Friday, February 27, 2009*

*The last days direct swaps will be approved. Students must complete their moves and return the key(s) to their old assignments no later than Thursday, December 11, 2008 for the Fall 2008 semester; no later than Monday, March 2, 2009 for the Spring 2009 semester.

A direct swap occurs when two students "swap" room assignments with each other.

Direct Swap bulletin boards or binders are located at residence offices and at the BU Housing Assignments Area. Available on these bulletin boards and in these binders are direct swap cards that students have completed at these offices. If you locate a card of a student whose current assignment interests you, contact the student to discuss swapping rooms.

If you find a student who would like to swap rooms and one or both of you have roommates, those roommates must also agree to the swap. When you have the agreement of all the students involved, you must all go to your residence office to complete a Direct Swap Request Form. You must receive the approval of your residence director before the swap can take place. Once your direct swap is approved, you have 48 hours to complete your move.

Because of variable residence rates, the residence rate for a new assignment may be more expensive than for your present assignment. You are responsible for payment of the higher rate for the new accommodation as stated in your Residence License Agreement and detailed in the academic year residence and dining plan rate schedule.

Room changes between dormitory-style and apartment-style residences will result in changes in dining plan status. Students assigned to a dormitory-style residence are required to be on a dining plan. Students who change from a dormitory-style to an apartment-style residence will be removed from their dining plan and should contact the Terrier Card Office if they wish to remain on a dining plan.

Students are permitted to direct swap with one another during designated periods during fall and spring semesters.

Direct swaps are not permitted during the Intersession period (between fall and spring semesters) or during the summer for the upcoming academic year.
