Assistant Professor of Hospitality Finance and Revenue Management
Apostolos Ampountolas, Ph.D. joined the faculty at Boston University School of Hospitality Administration after many accomplished years of teaching, research, and working for international hotels and travel companies.
Most recently, Apostolos was a lecturer at Cesar Ritz Colleges in Switzerland and an adjunct instructor at the Washington State University where he taught a variety of hospitality finance, accounting, asset management, and revenue management courses. While teaching, he conducted and published research in journals like International Journal of Tourism Research and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education, in addition to presenting his work at international conferences like the INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section Conference, the Advances in Hospitality and Tourism Marketing and Management Conference and the Graduate Education & Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality & Tourism. His research specializes in hospitality finance including revenue management, pricing strategies, distribution channels, and financial analysis of hotel evaluations.
Prior to joining academia, he enjoyed a 20-year successful international career in travel, tourism and hospitality as well as providing consulting services to the industry sector. He supported hospitality firms throughout Europe, specializing in pricing optimization models and revenue performance, most recently as a Revenue Management and Pricing Consultant for SUNRESORTS Hotels in Santorini, Greece. He also spent five years at the Kuoni Group as the Area Sourcing Manager Northern Europe for Kuoni Global Travel Services and the Head of Hotel & Destination Services Contracting Europe for Kuoni Destination Management.
Originally from Greece, Apostolos began his hospitality career as a tour operator for Atena Travel Ltd., a path that he followed to management roles at other tour operators including Tui Hellas S.A., Plotin S.A (Thomas Cook AG)., Zeus S.A. (Thomas Cook AG), and youtravel.com.
Apostolos received his diploma in accounting from ICBS College in Greece and his B.A. in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from University of Bournemouth in the United Kingdom. His post-graduate education includes certificates in commercial law from Northumbria University, advanced revenue management and hotel real estate investments and asset management from Cornell University, and in higher education from University of Derby. In 2016, he earned his Ph.D. in Management from University of Exeter. He also holds Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) from American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.
He is an active member of the Association of Accountants and Financial Professionals in Business (IMA), INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section and International Council of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (I-CHRIE). Apostolos is currently an active reviewer for a number of renowned journals including the Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management, International Journal of Revenue Management, Tourism Management, International Journal of Hospitality Management, and Tourism Geographies Journal. He regularly attends academic conferences and symposia to present his work to different target audiences.
